FG Supports Cross River State with One Million Tree Seedlings

Federal Government has expressed its readiness to support the Cross River State to combat erosion issues facing the state.


Minister of Environment, Mohammed Mahmud, stated this in Calabar, during his visit to the government house where he was received by the Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Esu.


The Minister, who kick-started the support with a donation of one million organic tree seedlings as part of environmental restoration with a view to protecting its biodiversity, said the erosion issues facing the state at the different local governments will be looked into by the Federal Government through the ecological office.


He said tree planting is one of the major projects embarked upon by the ministry to protect and restore the environment from further degradation by natural occurrences like erosion.

Responding, The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Esu lauded the Minister for having a special interest in helping the state to tackle its environmental challenges and thanked the Minister for the donation of the one million tree seedlings, adding that Cross River.


Cross River state according to the minister is one of the cleanest states in Nigeria with green canopy and also the largest tropical rainforests in sub-Sahara Africa.
