Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya has called for concerted efforts to tackle the growing numbers of gully erosion incidences in the state.

According to the State Governor, there are over two hundred gully erosion sites recorded in the State, affecting the lives and properties of the people living in the state.

Governor Yahaya disclosed this while signing contract documents worth over Twelve Billion Naira aimed at tackling erosion in some parts of Gombe metropolis.

This marks a new approach in tackling environmental conditions as the state government initiates a concrete action plan by signing major contracts that would see to the construction of pavements and other works to check devastating erosions within the Gombe metropolis.

The new project is coming after the success the State government recorded by constructing pavements and preventing erosion at the Gombe State University community and Mallam Inna which had come under several gully erosion threats.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya used the occasion to assure residents that the State government is alive to its responsibility of preventing erosion and reclaiming lost lands.

The new project which is being funded by the World Bank, will cover a land mass from the Federal College of Education to the Railway line in the Gombe metropolis with the State government paying over Five hundred million Naira as counterpart funding.
