Cross River State

In a bid to restore the clean and green status of Cross River State, especially the state capital, Calabar, in preparation for the 2023 Carnival, the state government has reintroduced the compulsory statewide environmental sanitation exercise.

Speaking while inspecting and enforcing the exercise in major markets and other business places in Calabar and neighboring Odukpani local government area of the state, the Commissioner for Environment, Moses Osogi, said the ministry’s taskforce teams were in other local government areas to ensure compliance.

Osogi who expressed excitement at the level of compliance by Cross Riverians following the reintroduction of the exercise said, soon the mobile courts will be reintroduced to try defaulters.

As part of its mandate to support the government in ensuring that Cross River is kept clean and green at all times, a representative of Earth Environment And Climate Care Ambassadors, ECCA, Cyril Ikem, said it was cardinal for people to understand the importance of keeping their environment clean.

Some Cross Riverians who spoke to ait.live, at some major markets in the city, commended the state government for reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise which they said should be sustained and enforced with all seriousness.

The statewide monthly sanitation which will be observed every last Saturday of the month, will see the state government sanction residents who refuse to comply with the environmental sanitation
