Hours after the suspension of all wet-leased aircraft under the United Nigeria airlines by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, over recent air incidence happenings, the minister of aviation and aerospace, Festus Keyamo says he will be a failure if those responsible are not sanctioned by regulatory bodies under the sector.
Keyamo stated this at a meeting with all heads of the ministry’s Agencies in Abuja and said that not all air incidence are act of God but failure of man.
The minister however went into a close door technical session with all the heads of agencies to ascertain factors responsible for recurrence of air incidence and expected to brief the media shortly after the meeting.
NCAA’s suspension of all wet-leased aircraft under the United Nigeria Airlines is coming after an aircraft landed passengers at the Asaba International Airport, Delta state on Sunday rather than their destination, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA in Abuja.
The air Passengers said they only realised the mistake after the cabin crew announced “Welcome to Abuja” when they landed in Asaba.
After about half an hour on the tarmac, the plane was redirected to Abuja. This was after the pilot announced that the “honest mistake” was caused by a mix-up in the flight plan given to him.
On September 8th, the United Nigeria airlines aircraft had skidded off the runway during landing. The airline explained that the aircraft with registration number U5 0513 encountered aquaplanning due to heavy rainfall during its descent at the murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos.
