The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, says funds will be appropriated as compensation for victims of the notorious and now disbanded, Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS .
The Speaker made the pledge at plenary on Tuesday as the lawmakers began debate on the general principles of the 2021 budget.
The Speaker said that the decision of the House for the monetary compensation package is part of its resolve to ensure that the lives of those killed by SARS brutality and victims of the recent End SARS protests in various parts of the country, will not have been in vain.

Gbajabiamila said the scrap of SARS as announced by the Inspector General of Police on Sunday, is in line with the wishes of the Nigerian people.
A one- minute silence was observed by the lawmakers for persons killed during the recent massive protests calling for the disbandment of the squad.
