The students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi are protesting over insecurity in the university.
They allege that on Saturday night, some unknown persons stabbed a 500-level student to death.
The students who chased away security guards at the gate of the university, shut the gate for hours, demanding explanations on why there is insecurity in the university
For more than five hours, the gate of the university was closed by the students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, disrupting the usual activities of the school, as many staff and students who came in late could not gain access to the university.
The students, despite efforts by both the management of the school led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Student Affairs and the leadership of the Student Union, failed to comply.
Most of the protesting students refused to speak with journalists about the reasons for the protest, for the sake of their safety
A student, who doesn’t want his name mentioned and not part of the protesters, says the protest is as a result of the continued robbery attacks by armed men on the campus, leading to one of the students being stabbed to death.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Student Affairs refused to make comments.
