Top military spokesman, Major General Edward Buba, has insisted that the operation at Ligarma showed credible intelligence of a massing of terrorists who deliberately embedded themselves within the civilian population.

The Defence spokesman in a statement said the military will continue to hunt down terrorists, even as it regrets the deaths of dozens of civilians in Sunday’s Kaduna operation.

The statement adds that the Nigerian military does its best at all times to distinguish between civilians and terrorists and that the incident in which civilians were killed is regrettable.

Major General Buba, in the statement, requested cooperation from communities, by providing information to troops, particularly when such a community is known to be infested with terrorists and their sympathisers.

This, the statement continues, is to enable the military to take extra care, to distinguish between friendly and untoward activities during operations.
