President of Guinea, Alpha Conde, has been declared winner of Sunday’s disputed election by the West African country’s electoral commission.

This result, which is subject to the confirmation of the Constitutional Court, gives the eighty two-year old another five- year third term in office.

A referendum earlier in the year is said to have given a nod to Conde’s elongation of his then constitutional two term limit.

The main opposition candidate, Celiou Diallo, who got thirty-six percent of the total votes according to the electoral body, has already called the result a fraud, insisting that he won the election

Not less than eighteen people, including two police officers were killed in election-related violence.
