Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has said that his statement on the dress code was quoted out of context, and wrongly presented to the public.

The reaction is coming as reaction to a recent viral video making the rounds on social media platforms, where Governor Bago was giving an address at the Wushishi Local Government Area during an event.

In a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, refuted the content of the doctored video where the Governor was captured as saying that civil servants should not dress in native attire popularly called ‘Babban Riga’  n the Hausa language, from Mondays to Thursdays, saying the viral video did not capture the statement in its original context.

According to the statement, the Governor was only encouraging civil servants to be farmers, saying that to be a good farmer, you will need to dress smartly to farm.

The statement also claimed that the viral video was curiously and mischievously edited to malign the governor, stressing that the general public must disregard the clip, and maintains that the full video clearly defines what the Governor meant.

“Governor Bago believes that, as a state, it has no reason to be poor because of the enormous agricultural potential, and his government is already investing heavily in the agricultural revolution, hence the need for all to collectively embrace farming, including civil servants”.

He advised social media influencers to be mindful, and sure of the contents and context of the information they circulate, to avoid misrepresentations of facts.
