The Archbishop Emeritus of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan has clarified a statement from Pope Francis that Priests may bless same sex couples, saying it is different from blessing the marriage.
Speaking on AIT’/s current affairs programme, Focus Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja, Cardinal Onaiyekan however said he would advise Priests to administer the blessings to same sex persons individually, rather than as couples.
ONAIYEKAN insists that contrary to some misguided interpretations, the document did not validate the blessing of same sex marriage or union.
While affirming that the Catholic church remains firm in its stance against same sex marriage, the retired Archbishop said the new rule will afford the perpetrators the chance to live a holy life.
