Port Harcourt Refinery Fully Alive After Christmas – Minister

The Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State, South South Nigeria will again commence refining of petrol after the Christmas following the mechanical completion of the Phase 1 rehabilitation exercise of the plant.

This was announced by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources in charge of Oil, Heineken Lokpobiri during a media tour of the refinery complex.

The blaring refinery flare at the time of the media tour, was an indication of mechanical Completion of the PortHarcourt Refinery which has a combined refining capacity of 210,000 barrels per day.

The NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari told journalists that the flare signifies the completion of Phase 1 of the 1.5 billion dollar rehabilitation exercise.

Both the Minister of State for Petroleum, Oil and his counterpart in charge of Gas said actual refining of products will commence after the Christmas festivities.

Figures from government show that approximately N11.35 trillion is said to have been expended in the last ten years to fix the country’s refineries.

The Buhari administration had contracted the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery in March 2021, with a project completion date of December 2023, hence local refining seems on course, according to these top officials.
