Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has appealed to officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force in Benin, to return to their duty of safeguarding life and property of residents in the State.

The Governor made this appeal at an interactive session with top police officers at the Government house and a solidarity visit to the State Police Headquarters in Benin City.

The meeting was to boost their morale in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests, hijacked by alleged hoodlums and resulted in the wanton destruction of public and private businesses .

The Governor acknowledged that the events may have dampened their spirits, saying that his administration was aware of the enormous sacrifices made by the Police Force, in the course of carrying out their duties.

From Government house, they proceeded to the State Police Command Headquarters, to see the officers and men.

In his response Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo gave a rundown of the wreckage by the suspected thugs and called for support from the state Government.

Governor Obaseki lauded the effort of the police in combating crime and appealed to them to return to their duty posts.

The Governor was particular about the fleeing inmates, who did not make use of the window given them, to return and called for the collective effort of the residents to track them.

Obaseki assured that the State Government will take care of the medical bills of those injured during the protest.
