Edo Assembly

The Edo State House of Assembly has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, to direct his men back to their duty posts, in view of the pervading insecurity in the state.

The current situation is coming after the ENDSARS protests and the hijack of the peaceful protests by hoodlums who looted, burnt many police stations and carted away their arms and ammunition in Benin City.

The lawmakers while deliberating on a motion under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, moved by Emma Okoduwa, representing Esan North East 2, said unless urgent steps are taken, the present security challenges will lead to a total state of anarchy, where criminality will be the order of the day.

The lawmakers in charting a way forward towards effective policing of the state, are also calling on local government councils to provide community vigilantes to complement the efforts of the police.

Edo state has been plagued by the increasing incidence of robbery and other forms of criminal activities since the protests that rocked the country, demanding police reforms.
