As part of efforts to find lasting peace and security in Katsina State, especially the front line area councils, a non-governmental organization, NGO, in collaboration with the Katsina State government has inaugurated the Women Peace Council.

The formation and inauguration of the council is because the women are mostly at the receiving end of the activities of banditry and other forms of insecurity.

The wife of the Katsina State governor, Hadiza Masari, noted that the 4 area councils mostly affected by the activities of banditry, Katsina, Safana, Batsari and Jibia, were selected to serve in the women peace building council, which she promised that her office will support.

While commending the NGO for the initiative, Masari said, the gesture will go a long way to elevate the women’s unique role in conflict prevention, which include early warning and peace building in the long run.

Also speaking during the inauguration, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Rabiat Muhammad, welcomed the development and promised to use her office for maximum rural women mobilization.

The 60 women selected for the council are drawn from the various communities and religious backgrounds, to champion peace, development and stability.
