The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and other responders have finally curtailed the fire resulting from an explosion that was caused by an overturned petrol tanker.
The tanker was said to be carrying 45,000 liters of petrol when the incident occurred. The team was accompanied by security reinforcements, which enabled them to return to the scene and contain the fire.
Post-disaster figures according to LASEMA assessment, is as follows: 2 fatalities (driver of tanker and motor boy) and 10 casualties who received on the spot treatment. 23 vehicles were also affected, including 1 tanker, containing the 45,000 litres of petrol, 1 luxurious passenger bus, 2 articulated vehicles and 19 cars.
The operation has been completed and normal traffic flow is expected.
The joint team were earlier prevented from carrying out their life saving activities by a group of young men who were brandishing dangerous weapons and waylaid them on arrival at the scene.
