Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Steel has queried the inability of the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development to Harness the abundant solid mineral deposits in the country.
The lawmakers say, there is a lot of revenue leakages across the states where solid minerals have been left untapped.
Nigeria has vast deposit of solid minerals which have remained undeveloped, resulting to the noticeable security situation in some parts of the country due to the activities of illegal miners.

The committee has therefore promised to provide all the necessary legislative support for the revival of the moribund mines and steel industry.
The committee seeks to know why the completion Ajaokuta Steel Complex was not adequately provided for in the 2021 budget proposal. The lawmakers noted that in order to stop the country from further sliding into recession, the mines and steel sector has to be adequately funded.
