Zamfara State government is debunking a claim by some persons that over six million Naira ransom was paid on behalf of the 26 girls released recently.

The girls had been abducted from a village in Katsina State.

Zamfara Governor, Bello Mohammed, described the claim as an attempt by enemies of peace, to discredit the efforts of the state government, through its deals to restore lasting peace in the state.

The Zamfara State government described as unfounded and unfortunate, the claim by some elements in the media, that about N6.5million ransom was paid to the bandits on behalf of the 26 girls.

Governor Mohammed vowed that he will not allow anything to discourage him from the peace initiative, which his administration has initiated, not only for Zamfara State alone but for the whole country.

He said all hands must be on deck to ensure that the state achieves lasting peace and stability.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, said that his principal believed in telling the truth, and he is committed to saving the lives of many, from the criminal elements.

One of the parents of the rescued girls, Abdulkarin Musa, told journalists that no ransom was paid before the release of the girls.

Governor Mohammed reiterated his administration’s resolved, to continue to fight the recalcitrant bandits, to provide a secure Zamfara State, and to enhance economic growth.
