The Federal Government is demanding an immediate and exhaustive investigation, from the Cable News Network, CNN, into its report on the Lekki toll Gate incident, to determine its authenticity and if it met the basic standards of Journalism.

In a letter addressed to the Vice President Communications of CNN, by the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, the Federal Government faulted the report of the incident, by the international media, as a reinforcement of disinformation on the issue and wondered why it rushed to air the lekki toll gate incident without recourse to the side of Government, a situation Government viewed as clearly lacking in balance and fairness.

The Federal Government also questioned the investigation by CNN, which relied on unverified footages from the social media, which it claims were manipulated.

The Federal Government at a media conference in Abuja a few days back called for the sanction of CNN for what it terms unprofessional investigation and airing of a report on the Lekki toll gate shooting.

But CNN in a swift response to the Federal Government, says it stands by the report it aired on the Lekki incident, even as Lai Mohammed warns that the Nigerian Government reserves the right to take any action that will forestall a further break down of law and order on the incident.
