The traditional institution has been described as a very formidable tool that could be used to ensure lasting peace and stability in the country. This is given the renewed wave and methods being devised by bandits and other criminal elements against innocent Nigerians.

Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Abdulmumuni Usman, stated this during the turbaning of 7 prominent indigenes of the State at his palace. He called on the new title holders to use their positions to contribute to the peace and development of the country and Katsina State in particular.

The Emir stressed that, banditry and other crimes know no political party or personality. He said, being conferred with a title is a renewed wakeup call to serve the people and bring them closer, towards contributing their quota, to both the state and national development.

One of the recipients, Lieutenant-Colonel Abdulazeez Yar’adua (Rtd), is the younger brother to late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.

He was conferred with the title of Matawallen Katsina which is historic and a family title, held by their late father, Musa Yar’adua since 1908. The late President also held the title until hid death in May 2010 before now being conferred on his younger brother, 10 years after.

Speaking on behalf of the other turbaned personalities, the new Matawallen Katsina, Abdulazeez Yar’adua, promised to use his military background to continue to contribute to the security of the state and nation at large, in the face of insecurity, bedeviling the nation.

Some friends and well wishers, also expressed optimism that with the calibre of persons honoured, they will bring their wealth of experience to bear in tackling insecurity the State.

The event brought together in public for the first time since the 2015 general elections, the immediate past Governor Ibrahim Shema of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and incumbent Governor Aminu Masari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who both shared warm embrace, hand shake and engaged in a very private discussion, to the admiration of many.
