The Coalition of Unitelitical Parties (CUPP) says the current hunger, depression, and crime in Nigeria are some of the negative impacts of the fuel subsidy removal without a proper plan.
In a statement signed by the National Secretary, Peter Ameh, CUPP said the “unstructured” removal of the fuel subsidy is the root cause of the harsh economic realities for Nigerians.
Peter Ameh says despite fuel subsidy removal, a few Nigerians live in luxury with stolen money, while others are dying of hunger and depression.
He said, “What the Federal Government has done is akin to robbing Peter to pay Paul. Removing the only rare benefit the poor get from the rich and transferring the same to the rich.”
The CUPP called on the government to make sure that all the refineries are maintained and working properly to put a stop to whatever cost the country incurs from the importation of finished byproducts of crude oil into the country.
The umbrella body of opposition political parties said the suggested plan will also stop the hidden corruption and its attendant effects on Nigerians.
