Newly deployed Commander, Zone K of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC), Awka Raji Ibrahim, has charged officers and men under him to redouble their efforts in intelligence gathering.

Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Ibrahim gave the directive during the decorations of recently promoted officers of NSCDC, Anambra State Command on Wednesday in Awka.

The newly created zone K of NSCDC with headquarters in Awka comprised of Anambra and Enugu states.

The two states in the South-East geo-political zone have been under zone D with headquarters in Benin, while Ebonyi, Abia and Imo have their zonal headquarters in Owerri, Imo State.

Ibrahim noted that intelligence gathering was key to security operations, adding that with the challenges before security agencies, the personnel must raise the tempo of information and intelligence gathering to perform.

He commended the promoted officers, noting that a lot were now expected of them in their new positions.

Mr David Billie, Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, urged the elevated officers to see the promotions as a tonic to do more.

Billie who was visibly elated during the event, said the 2020 exercise was the batch with the highest number of promoted officers since the establishment of the command.

“We have a total of 64 newly promoted officers, 66 others were either converted or upgraded, bringing the number to 130 personnel promoted in this year alone,” he said.

Billie later told reporters that the command has mapped out plans to ensure effective operation across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

“Apart from the inter-agency collaboration, arrangement NSCDC under my watch is doing everything possible to ensure that Anambra people sleep with their two eyes closed this festivities,” he said.

Eight officers were elevated to the rank of deputy commandant of Corps, seven promoted to Assistant Commandant of Corps, while others were promoted to other positions.

Dr Solomon Ekeopara and Mr Alex Osihem, two of the officers promoted to deputy commandant of corps in their separate speeches thanked the Commandant General of corps for the promotion.

Osihem who doubles as the chairman organising committee of the event, assured on behalf of his colleagues to do more in the service of the agency.
