The National Treasurer of the Labour party, Oluchi Opara has accused the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure of misappropriation of 3.5 billion naira raised from the sales of forms during the 2023 general election.

At a briefing in Abuja, the national treasurer alleged that donations for party’s development were not paid into any of the party’s accounts, and called on the national chairman to urgently account for all the monies raised for the party since his assumption of office as chairman, in 2021.

Opara called on the national chairman of the party, to summit himself for an independent forensic audit of party’s finances.

In a swift reaction, the Labour Party described the accusation as malicious allegation, saying that the outburst by the national treasurer was acted under some external influences of political opponents who are bent on distracting the Labour Party.

In the statement by the national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh the party has not earned 3.5 billion naira and its national chairman Julius Abure did not embezzle monies as claimed by the national treasurer

The labour party said external auditor, the independent national electoral commission INEC and other regulatory bodies have always scrutinized the various accounts.

Labour Party promised to table the issue before the disciplinary committee for appropriate actions.
