The Niger State Police Command is investigating an incident in which a 19-year-old newly wed housewife, Aisha Aliyu, reportedly stabbed her husband, Idris Ahmadu, to death in Nasarawa village, in Lapai Local Government Area of the State.

In a statement by the spokesman of the Police, Deputy Superintendent Wasiu Abiodun, explained that before the arrival of the Police to the scene, the suspect had fled. He said efforts are being intensified to arrest her.

A source in the area told ait.live that the incident happened around 1:00am on Monday, February 12, adding that the couple got married on December 31, 2023.

It was gathered that the couple had a little misunderstanding in the evening of Sunday, and they were reconciled before going to bed, until midnight, when the mother of the deceased heard him screaming for help.
“When the mother came out alongside other residents, they saw him in a pool of blood. He tried to run out of the room, but he fell on the doorstep. But up until now, we don’t know the whereabouts of his wife,” the source said.

According to the source who would not disclose his identity, the wife had first stabbed the husband in the chest before she eventually slaughtered him.

However, another source has debunked claims that it was a forced marriage, saying, “the couple had been in a relationship for years, but before the wedding date was fixed, she had a change of mind to marry someone else. But even with that, issues were resolved. They started this relationship right out of secondary school, and they had been together. Before the marriage, she said she was no longer interested in the relationship, but the issue was resolved, and she eventually agreed, not knowing that this was her plan. She said she had a new suitor,” he said.

Police say the case is under investigation as manhunt intensifies on the fleeing suspect.
