Gombe State Ministry of Health says it is on the highest state of alert over the rising suspected cases of Meningitis in Funakaye and Nafada Local Government Areas.
Commissioner of Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru confirms that only two cases have the virus out of six suspected infections in Funakaye LGA with one person dead and the other being treated for the disease. He says the Ministry is taking proactive measures in tackling the scourge with massive enlightenment as its major weapon.
Its another year and it appears to be another season of Meningitis in North-East Nigeria as the prevailing hot and dry weather heralds the recurring cases of the deadly infection.
This time, cases are being reported as residents battle with the scorching heat and its attendant effects. The authorities say with this development they have taken more enlightenment to the people so as to mitigate the spread of the virus.
It also says with the findings there is no outbreak of the virus adding it would keep a close eye on the developments in the two reporting local government areas for now.
