Nigeria women cricket national team has clinched the maiden bronze medal at the African Games.
Cricket is featuring as a medal scoring event for the first time in the history of the continental competition and Nigeria’s women yellow greens emerged as the third best team following a 3 wickets win over their Ugandan counterpart.
Nigeria won the toss and opted to field first. Effective bowling and fielding by the Nigerian ladies limited Uganda to 76 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
In the second innings, The yellow greens begun on the back foot loading three wickets within The first three overs.
The batting partnership between Salome Sunday and Abigail Igbobie steadied the tide for Nigeria with 58 runs. Both players were dispatched in quick succession sparking tension in the Nigerian bench.
Lilian Ideh who stepped in for Salome Sunday got only one run before she was run out by Mbabazi.
With six more balls remaining and Nigeria trailing by 7 runs, Lucky Piety stepped up.
