Kidnapped Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH in Enugu, South-East Nigeria, Ngozi Mba, has regained her freedom.
Mba, who was kidnapped alongside a hospital security guard last Tuesday within the hospital premises at Ituku Ozalla, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, was released on Thursday evening.
The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Boniface Uchelue, who confirmed her release to AIT.live in a telephone chat, also noted that the security guard was released earlier. He however did not disclose whether ransom was paid for their release.
The release of the Deputy Director by her kidnappers came on the heels of a protest by her colleagues on Thursday, who halted all medical services at the hospital to demand for her freedom.
The nurses, carrying placards with various messages, vowed not to resume work until Mba was released. Hours later, the victim was set free by her kidnappers and is said to have been reunited with her family in Enugu city.
The Police in the State are yet to comment on the latest development.
