The Federal government has asked state governments to immediately establish Safe Schools response coordination centres to increase surveillance on educational institutions.
The Minister Of State for Education, Yusuf Sanunu, who delivered government’s message during an assessment visit to the National safe schools response coordination Centre in Abuja, also directed all schools, public and private, to within two weeks register with the Centre, for more robust coordination.
The Minister expressed regrets that the recent abduction of school children in Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina states, is a huge slap on Government’s effort at reducing the ’embarrassing’, twenty million number out of school children figure.
Since the abduction of the over 280 school children and teachers in kuriga, Kaduna as well as kidnapping in Sokoto, Katsina and Borno states, the government has been restrategizing on how to make schools and communities safer.
