Killing of soldiers: President Tinubu approves takeover of Delta State communities

President Bola Tinubu has granted the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa full authority to bring to justice anybody found responsible for the killing of some military personnel during a rescue mission to Okuoma community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, South-South Nigeria.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 14 March when troops, responding to a crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State were ambushed. A Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 soldiers lost their lives with one civilian also killed.

The President in a statement he personally signed says as the Commander-in-Chief, he joined all well-meaning Nigerians and the men and women of the Armed Forces to mourn and express profound grief over what he describes as “needless death of our gallant soldiers.” The President extends his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, their colleagues and loved ones.

“The military high command is already responding to this incident. The cowardly offenders responsible for this heinous crime will not go unpunished.”

President Tinubu added that his government will not relent until peace and tranquillity is achieved in every part of Nigeria.
