Activities at the University of Jos were grounded Monday as members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) joined their counterparts nationwide on a seven-day warning strike.
Students who arrived the campus in the morning were turned back at the gate. They however expressed fears that the strike might take longer.
This is another season of disruption of academic activities in Nigerian universities, this time the NASU and SSANU, downing tools to draw the attention of the government to some unfulfilled agreements.
There was mild drama at the gates of the permanent site of university of Jos when the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Ishaya Audu, tried to make his way into the vicinity despite being blocked by the unions.

For now, leaders of the unions were seen enforcing the strike action, while men of the police force were drafted to the area to prevent the breakdown of the law and order
