Gunmen kill 3 officers in attack on police station in Ebonyi State

Unknown gunmen have attacked the Onueke Police Station in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria, killing at least two police inspectors and a sergeant.

The affected police station is located few kilometers from Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital and a not far distance from a military base in the state.

The gunmen numbering over 50, ait.live gathered invaded the police station and opened fire on the officers on duty killing 3 policemen while 2 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

Police sources said the invaders also made away with two AK 47 rifles kept at the station, setting ablaze the office of the Divisional Police Officer and other property belonging to the police.

Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah who confirmed this incident says the corpses of the slained policemen had been deposited in a mortuary while the two with injured are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

DSP Odah further notes that some arrests have been made as part of ongoing investigations into the matter while normalcy has since returned to the community where the attack occurred.

Ezza South Local Government Area of the State has remained a theatre of political crisis and cult-related violence, resulting in deaths and arson.
