Some concerned citizens of Bayelsa state are calling on the Federal government to have a comprehensive rail transportation policy that will include others states, including Bayelsa, stressing that a rail line through the oil producing state should be considered as critical given her role in the Nation’s economy.

Speaking to ait.live this Wednesday in Yenagoa, they say a rail line through Bayelsa will also reduce the pressure on the yet to be completed East-West road by heavy duty vehicles and also ease the plight of the citizens given the current economic realities.

The revival of the railway transportation system across Nigeria remains one of the biggest achievements of the Nigerian government in recent times.

The development has so far provided Nigerians with easier, cheaper and safer alternatives to long journeys, shifting attention from the roads and air transport systems.

But to some residents of Yenagoa, not having a rail line connecting Bayelsa state to other parts of the country, does not seem fair.

Key players in the public and private sector in the state are enjoined to collectively work together to push for the inclusion of the state.

Currently, residents of Bayelsa travel to Delta state to enable them access the Warri-Itakpe route. Meanwhile, that of the PortHarcourt Aba line is set to commence operation soonest.
