The Ondo State Governorship election petition tribunal this Tuesday commenced hearing in the case of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, challenging the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the October 10, 2020 poll.
After about one month break, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 10, 2020 Election, Eyitayo Jegede, through his counsel, Onyeachi Ikpeazu (SAN) approached the tribunal to invalidate the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Jegede’s grouse was that the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni as a sitting Governor, cannot function as the Caretaker Chairman of the APC.
He said that this ran contrary to the APC constitution and the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
During the cross-examination, counsel to the defendants, Lateef Fagbemi and Akin Olujimi, said that Jegede, who is not a member of the APC, should not interfere in the internal affairs of the party.
Both Jegede and the PDP have listed over 400 witnesses to prove their case.
