Federal Government reiterates commitment to uplift the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment towards the continuous upliftment of the poor and the most vulnerable citizens of the country.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadia Faruk, said this during the official flag-off ceremony of the Federal Government’s cash Grant of Twenty thousand Naira for rural women.

The women were drawn from the 361 wards of the state.

The minister said, Katsina state has so far benefited with the total sum of Nine billion Naira.

She also revealed that a total of 160,000 most vulnerable and poorest of the poor will benefit from the initiative across different states of the country, in the ongoing federal government cash grant.

The distribution of the 20,000 Naira Federal Government cash grant to the most vulnerable rural women in Katsina state, is to last for one week.

Among the 6,800 beneficiaries are 209 persons with special needs, most especially, women and young girls living with disabilities.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management And Social Development, Sadia Faruk while flagging off the distribution to the beneficiaries, informed them of the commitment of the President Buhari led, Federal Government, to do all it takes to keep lifting the most vulnerable out of poverty.

She added that the grant is part of the National Social Investment Programme of the ministry, to cushion the effect of Covid-19, on the Nigerian citizens, especially the most vulnerable in the society.

The minister hinted that the federal government is set to begin another empowerment programme, targeting the urban poor, especially those who have lost their means of livelihood, due to the negative effects of Covid-19.

While commending the federal government for the gesture, the Deputy Governor, Mannir Yakubu, assured the Minister of the State government’s commitment, towards effectively and efficiently, distributing the grant to the beneficiaries.

He also pledged that the beneficiaries will be enlightened and guided on the best ways to maximize the grants received, by judiciously utilizing it for the desired purpose
