Mixed reactions have greeted the reopening of schools in Osun state by the state government.
As some residents welcomed the development, others were sceptical, sighting the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
Like other states, Osun state also reopened its primary and secondary schools for both public and private schools this Monday, January 18.
Schools were scheduled to resume and continue their first term activities on the 4th of January after festive break but was postponed as a result of second wave of COVID-19.
In some schools visited in Osogbo, the state capital, COVID-19 protocols were seen being put in place, but these seem not to allay the fear of some residents who still believe the schools ought not to be reopened considering the increase in number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
However, some residents commended the reopening of schools as they challenged teachers and school owners to comply with the COVID-19 protocols, stressing that the virus might still be around for long time which does not worth closing schools indefinately.

As activities begin in schools across the state, the hope and expectations of residents is that this will not cause a surge in the number of cases of COVID-19 in the state.
