Nigeria Governors' Forum

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has dissociated itself from the claims credited to Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello that Covid-19 vaccine is meant to kill people.

Governor Bello was reported at a public function to have cast doubts on the wisdom of plans by the Federal Government to bring into the country, at least 100,000 doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech approved Covid-19 vaccine by February 2021.

The umbrella body of the Nigerian state Governors in a communique issued after its 24th Teleconference meeting emphasised that the Forum will continue to be informed and guided by science and will ensure that all decisions it takes retain the public and professional trust and not compromised by conflicts of interest.

Chairman of the Governors’ Forum sub-committee interfacing with the Presidetial Task Force on Covid-19, Ifeanyi Okowa expressed concern over the rising number of confirmed covid-19 cases in the country.

He called on Governors to do more to reactivate their health systems, open up treatment centres and increase partnerships with relevant stakeholder groups with a view to improving adherence to Covid-19 guidelines.
