Students of University of Calabar have called on the management of the institution’s newly Inaugurated Covid-19 Taskforce to take its mandate seriously; especially with the second wave of the pandemic hitting hard across the Country.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University , Professor Florence Obi, had inaugurated the COVID-19 Taskforce Central team for the institution under the leadership of Dr Kingsley Akaba ahead of the February 5th resumption date.

The task before the team, according to the vice Chancellor ,was to see to the full adherence of the Covid-19 safety protocols by students and staff of the institution.

Speaking with our correspondent in Calabar, some of the students commended the management for taking such proactive steps that will keep them safe while in the school.

A few students like Inyam Peters, however doubted the capacity of the Taskforce to control crowds in the lecture halls due to inadequate of facilities.

He asked the school authorities to quickly look into the issue of inadequate classrooms if hopes to effectively stop the spread of Covid-19 on campus.

The University of Calabar was among the first to set up a covid-19 Taskforce Team almost as soon as the Federal government announced schools resumption after over eight months lockdown of the Nigerian Universities as a result of both Union unrests and the Covid-19 pandemic.
