Martins Esin Unity Cup: Lawmaker Presents Trophies, Inaugurates LOC

Ahead of the finals of Rep. Martins Esin Unity Cup, the member representing Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development, Hon. Martins Esin has presented trophies as well as formally inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

The presentation and inauguration took place at his residence in Uyo. Addressing the Local Organizing Committee members, Martins Esin said the tournament is to promote unity among the five Local Government Areas of the constituency.

He said the tournament will take place yearly throughout his tenure in office, adding that he has concluded plans to involve the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in subsequent editions.

The National Assembly Man used the opportunity to announce that winner of the tournament, will win the sum of one million naria, runner up – five hundred thousand naira, while third place will go home with three hundred thousand naira.

The lawmaker, also said there will be consolidation prizes for teams as well as prizes for Best Behaved Team, Highest Goal Scorer, Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and Best Referee.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the LOC Chairman, Mr. John Ekpenyong thanked the sponsor for giving them the opportunity to serve in the committee. Ekpenyong, who is the National president of Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF), promised to give all the teams a level playing ground throughout the tournament.

In his vote of thanks, the LOC secretary, Mr. Winner Akan said the tournament has brought the five competing Local Government Areas together as well as showcase talent.

The final of the tournament comes up on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Oron township stadium.
