The Rivers State Government has approved over N80billion for the 33.5 kilometre road cutting across three Local Government Areas: Ikwerre, Emohua and, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni.
Briefing Newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson disclosed that funding for the project as well as the second phase of the Trans-Kalabari road will come directly from the State’s savings and not from any borrowing.
The State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Sim Fubara, says the project is expected to be completed in 24 months.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh who spoke on developments in the sector disclosed that approval had also been given for the implementation of the contributory health insurance programme, as well as the employment of health workers at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and the State’s Hospital Management Board.
In another development, Governor Sim Fubara, on Tuesday dissolved the Taskforce on Sanitation.
The Governor has directed his Special Adviser on Environmental Sanitation to take charge of the Agency until a decision is taken on the leadership of the Rivers State Waste Management Board Agency
