Covid-19: Bayelsa Government sets up committee to cushion effect of pandemic

As part of efforts to mitigate the threats posed by the coronavirus pandemic on the livelihood of poor and vulnerable people, the Bayelsa State Government has set up a steering committee on the Nigeria COVID19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, NG-CARES.

Governor Douye Diri who inaugurated the committee in Government house, Yenagoa, explained that the team is expected to provide oversight and policy framework for the programme

As Nigeria grapples with the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic with attendant infected persons now above 127 thousand, the Bayelsa State government says it would leave no stone unturned to cushion the effect of the pandemic on vulnerable Bayelsans.

To this end, Governor Douye Diri said the COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus social intervention programme which is in partnership with World Bank and states in Nigeria is meant to set the ball rolling in this regard

Governor Diri also inaugurated a 9-man steering committee to drive the policy of the programme and actualize its aims in Bayelsa State

The NG-CARES social intervention programme is expected to last for two years with each state eligible to access 20 million United States dollars.
