Nigerians have been charged to have themselves screened for cancer as early detection raises chances of survival.

Hope for cancer patients is the theme, as the World Cancer Day is being marked in Jalingo, Taraba State.

Hajiya Fai’za Yero is a cervical cancer survivor, she believes that her journey in fighting cancer, will be a source of hope and faith to others, suffering from the disease.

After beating the ailment, she set up the first cancer diagnostic centre in Taraba State, where screening and treatment are being provided at affordable cost.

At least 25% of women screened at her diagnostic centre, were found to have cervical cancer at its early stage.

They were ignorant of their status until the diagnosis.

She reiterates that early detection, means a higher chance of survival, and encourages regular tests.

As the world battles the Covid-19 pandemic, many killer diseases seem relegated to the background, which are, however, devouring so many lives and one of them is cancer.
