The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has shut down an eatery at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos over alleged discrimination against a physically challenged person.

The action of FAAN is coming just days after Debola Daniel, the son of former Ogun State governor and a serving Senator, Gbenga Daniel accused the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), located at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport of alleged discrimination due to his physical challenge.

A statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, said the action is in line with the provisions of the Lagos State laws on People with Special Needs.

The statement particularly quotes Part C, Section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination which states that, “A person shall not deprive another person of access to any place, vehicle or facility that members of the public are entitled to enter or use on the basis of the disability of that person”.

FAAN said it became necessary to take such action after it received the report of the alleged incident and intervened swiftly by deploying a Management team to investigate.

The Airport Authority noted that It is based on the findings of the team that FAAN shut down the KFC facility at the MMIA, where the incident occurred.

The Federal government agency explained that it has also instructed the KFC Management to tender an unreserved apology in writing, to the affected person with reduced mobility (PRM), as well as come up with a policy statement of non-discrimination to be pasted conspicuously at the door post of their facility at MMIA, before it can resume operation.

The statement adds that FAAN has tendered an apology to the affected Debola Daniel and assured all airport users that it will continue to work tirelessly in ensuring that the rights of all Air travellers are protected.

Daniel, on his social media handle had shared his experience while at the MMIA with his family members to buy lunch when the incident occurred.
