Ebonyi road crash,11 feared dead

At least eleven persons are feared dead and three others with various degree of injuries following alone fatal motor accident that occurred Monday, along the Ishiagu axis of the Okigwe – Afikpo highway of Ebonyi State, southeast Nigeria.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Police Command, Loveth Odah who confirmed accident says an eighteen seaters bus belonging to an unnamed company is involved.

According to the Police spokesperson, the bus was conveying about fourteen passengers on board from Umuahia in Abia State to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The Police quotes an eye witness account as saying that the driver of the bus lost control after one of its tyres busted,skidded off the road and somersaulted severally inside the bush and in the process caught fire.

The PPRO says the accident left the driver of the vehicle and 10 other passengers dead on the spot, while three others survived out of which two have been discharged from hospital.

Monday’s accident is coming barely two weeks after a similar incident had occurred along the Abaomege – Afikpo Road in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State which claimed the lives of 3 passengers on board a commercial company bus, returning to Abakaliki from Port Harcourt in Rivers state.
