The Independent Investigative Panel on human rights violations by the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS and other Units of the Nigerian Police in Abuja has summoned the Chief Consultant of University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Dr A. Abimiku to appear before it, to explain the cause of death of one Ifeoma Abugu.
At the resumed hearing before the panel on Monday, Chairman of the panel, Justice Sulaiman Galadima ordered the appearance of Abimiku, a pathologist said to have signed the autopsy result of Ifeoma Abugu.
Testifying before the panel, Afam Ugwunwa, the fiancé of the deceased, said Ifeoma died in the custody of the police on the 13th September, 2020, but the police alleged that she died due to high consumption of drugs while the autopsy conducted on her by the hospital showed no traces of drugs in her blood.
The deceased was arrested by the police on allegation of illicit sale of hard drugs and was being taken away to the station.

Similarly in another petition, the Nigeria Police told the panel that it will not appear for CSP Danjuma Ochejeh if proven that he did not act in his official capacity while carrying out arrests and detention of some members of Odekpe Community in Anambra state over a land dispute.
CSP Ocheje was alongside personnel of IGP Intelligence Response Team Abuja were said to have carried out some arbitrary arrest and detention, which led to the death of one Aboy Okewu of Odekpe Community in Anambra West LGA of Anambra state.
The case of disappearance of one Morris Ahwe was also heard, the complainant, Raphael Ashwe in his testimony said his brother was last seen in 2018 following his arrest in Makurdi on the 8th of May 2018 over the allegation of gun running and illegal possession of firearms before he was moved to Abuja.
Reacting to the Petition, Counsel to the police James Idachaba said he and his team are not privy to the testimony of the complainant but the panel ordered Idachaba to ensure as a matter of necessity that Morris Ashwe is produced before the panel on the next adjorned date which is 24 of February 2021.
