Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi has called on the National Assembly to declare a state of emergency on the Third Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge.
This follows the deteriorating state of the two important road infrastructure including pier caps and other critical under water challenges noticed under the bridges.
Umahi made the call while leading the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works on two-day inspection tour of infrastructure projects in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.
The Third Mainland Bridge is currently undergoing major repairs leading to its routine closure to road users to allow the contractors carry out the work unhindered to meet deadline.
