Association of Resident Doctors in Nasarawa State especially members at the Specialist Hospital Lafia have embarked on a three-day warning strike over the suspension of the residency training program and victimization of resident doctors for taking steps to protect themselves and the public from covid-19 infection.

The resident doctors announced their resolution in an interview with ait.live after an emergency congress meeting held in Lafia, the state capital.

The battle against the Covid-19 pandemic is one that is not yet over and medical workers are on the frontline in the battle. Despite their role, resident doctors in Nasarawa are unhappy and have accused the Chief Medical Director of the specialist hospital, Dr. Hassan Ikrama of taking certain decisions that affect them and are therefore calling for a reversal.

The doctors said after the three days warning strike given to the management, an ultimatum of 14 days within which to address the above issues will be given the failure of which will result in an indefinite strike.

The Chief Medical Director of Lafia Specialist Hospital while responding said the strike is uncalled for and did not follow due process.

The CMD said the state government has put in the effort to improve welfare packages for doctors, infrastructural and human development among others in order to ensure quality healthcare delivery to the good people of Nasarawa state. How the issues are resolved will be seen in the days ahead.
