The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, Mohammed Barkindo, has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as the new Director-General of World Trade Organisation, WTO.
According to Barkindo, her appointment came at a time global trade has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
He hinted that support for the multilateral system needs to be bolstered and the WTO under her leadership will embark on a period of substantive and procedural reform.

He expressed confidence that her lengthy and successful careers as a highly respected economist and international development expert and 25 years with the World Bank will come handy.
