Senate

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday reached a resolution, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, to declare a “State of Emergency” on security in the country.

The position of the upper legislative chamber followed a Point of Order by Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East, on the Kidnap of school children in the early hours of Wednesday, from Government Science Secondary School, Kagara, Niger State.

Narrating the attack, the lawmaker said, unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits, stormed the school premises, killing the security guards on duty and abducting the students.

Commenting on the motion, Senator Bima, representing Niger South, said the government seems overwhelmed by the security situation in the country.

The Senate’s call for “State of Emergency” is coming barely a week after it asked President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Office of the National Security Adviser, to rejig the security architecture of the country.
