Former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ali Chiroma has died at the age of 91. He was the labour leader from 1984 to 1988, when he was forced out by the military junta.
Former NLC President, Ayuba Wabba confirmed to AIT.live that Ali Chiroma died peacefully in the company of his family and friends bringing an end to about seven decades of service and commitment to the working people of Nigeria and the masses.
According to Wabba, Chiroma was an epitome of courage and character who served as the President of the NLC in the hey days of military rule.

In their separate condolence messages, Trade Union Congress, TUC President, Festus Osifo; NLC President, Joe Ajaero and President of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, Ado Kabiru describe Ali Chiroma as a veteran and a quintessential labour leader, who worked tirelessly for the liberation of the Nigerian worker.
Chiroma was a two-term member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation, ILO, Geneva Switzerland, and served on the Committee of Freedom of Association.
He was also a member of SEC 5, 1983 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Jos and recipient of the national honours of Member of the Order of the Niger, MON.
