The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC says it will support farmers within the Niger Delta region to enhance food production and training of youths.
NDDC Executive Director Projects, Victor Antai stated this during a tour of some farms in Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria.
The visit by Antai and his team to some selected farms is to enable the Commission plan on implementation of various agricultural policies under the Project Hope Programme, as well as achieve food security within the oil-rich region.
Antai said the harvest of crops at farms visited shows the region can produce carrots, watermelon and rice in commercial quantities.
To some of the farmers, issues of finance and lack of government support were the reasons for low productivity.
The NDDC team, is expected to tour farms in other states within the Niger Delta region
