The Federal High Court Abuja has been asked to grant an order of mandamus compelling the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited and its top executives for allegedly stealing 16 million barrels of crude oil.
In an exparte motion filed before the court, the applicant, the Global Network for Youth Empowerment and Equal Justice is also asking the court for another order of mandamus compelling the AGF and EFCC to make public the result of their investigations and prosecute the company alongside its executives if found wanting.

The group explained that the matter is one of urgent national importance to halt the dwindling economic fortunes of the country and acts capable of undermining Nigeria’s future.
An FCT High Court had previously ordered that executives of the oil company appear before it to explain their role in the alleged 16 million barrel crude oil theft.
